Today was a day of paradox, in which  all things three things were found to be new once again: a car, a friend, and a movie.

Smalltown had it's first official snow of the season.  The snow stuck and eventually built up to about 2 inches, which was quite lovely.  The Bug wrote an ode to mark the occasion.

I see snowflakes
milling around.
The land on
my eyelashes
and fall
to the ground.

She amazes me more every day.

"Amber?  Amber?  I'm not tired anymore Amber.  I'm going to go out and see if Santa was here."

Today was cookie-baking day.  Today we baked peanut blossoms, peanut butter, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, sugar cookies, and chocolate croissants.  The "we" I speak of is myself and The Bug.  She actually spent the day working with me in the kitchen.  She asked me questions about why we did things the way we were.  She loved helping me by ( Read more... )

Football has been a longstanding tradition in my family.  My father was taught to love the game and be always loyal to your team by his father, my father taught me, and I am dutifully teaching The Bug.  Love of the game has gone through the generations easily, but team loyalty...well that's been a rocky road for my dad.  He grew up in Baltimore ( Read more... )

My family has built many traditions around our family Christmas Tree.  It is always decorated while listening to Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas" album.  Dad always tangled in the lights and ends up breaking one strand before successfully lighting the tree.  We all have specific ornaments that we hang every year.  None of these things can happen ( Read more... )
